Betway announced as new PSL sponsor
The international betting company, founded in Malta, takes over from Multichoice subsidiary DStv – whose sponsorship comes to an immediate end, a year earlier than it was contracted for.
Khoza further confirmed that Betway’s backing comes in the tune of R900 million over the next three years, which the company CEO Laurence Michel further noted was the biggest single sports sponsorship in South Africa’s history.

Though the Betway Premiership will only kick off in six weeks, the MTN8 will take centre stage from 3 August, as confirmed by the PSL boss.
Betway CEO Laurence Michel added: “This partnership is the single biggest investment in South African sport. It underlines Betway’s investment in SA sport, and SA football, in particular.”
Betway will be the fourth league sponsor in the PSL era.
Castle (SA Breweries) were the original title-sponsor of the league, but in 2007, the same year as the PSL signed it’s landmark broadcast deal, ABSA took over as title sponsor and would remain so for the next 13 years.
In 2020, ABSA opted to cancel the sponsorship and Multichoice took over, and the league became known as the DStv Premiership.
